Top Male Actors Today

Today, there are many great working actors. Shortening that list to the top five may prove to be difficult, but several actors stand out for a variety reasons such as acting ability, presence, screen command and endurance.

1. Matthew McConaughey is a versatile actor who often gives stellar performances. His breakout film was the 1993 film Dazed and Confused. Matthew has been nominated several times and won the Oscar this year for his riveting performance in the indie film Dallas Buyers Club. He is probably best known for his roles in the critically acclaimed films A time To Kill and Amistad and most recently for his role in the hit film Magic Mike.

2. Denzel Washington is a veteran actor and an acting legend. His breakout role was on the hit television show St. Elsewhere that aired in the late 1980’s. He has been performing for decades in standout films such as Glory, Malcolm X and Mo Better Blues. Washington went on to star in blockbuster films such as Philadelphia and The Pelican Brief and won the best actor Oscar for his captivating performance in the mega hit movie Training Day.

3. Johnny Depp is a multi-talented actor, producer and musician. He remains one of the most popular and versatile actors today. Depp’s role in the late 1980’s television hit drama 21 Jump Street made him a household name. His standout roles include Sweeney Todd, Benny and Joon and Edward Scissorhands. Depp’s most successful film to date is the Pirates of the Caribbean. He was nominated three times for an Oscar and starred in hit dramas such as Public Enemies and Donnie Brasco.

4. Leonardo DiCaprio is a diverse lead actor who began acting at an early age. In the early 1990’s, he landed a supporting role on the popular sitcom Growing Pains. He went on to star in memorable films such as What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and Romeo and Juliet. He catapulted to super stardom for his role in the blockbuster film Titanic. He has been nominated three times for an Oscar. DiCaprio’s was nominated this year for his role in the hit film Wolf of Wall Street. Leonardo is also known for his roles in Gangs of New York, The Departed, The Aviator, Blood Diamond and The Great Gatsby.

5. Brad Pitt is still a very popular actor these days. His breakout role was in the hit film Thelma and Louise. He starred in the well-received dramas A River Runs Through It, Legends of the Fall and Fight Club. His most memorable films include Interview with the Vampire, 12 Monkeys and Inglorious Bastards. Pitt’s most recent films include World War Z, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and 12 Years a Slave. Pitt has been nominated for an Oscar four times and five times for a Golden Globe.
